What you need to know
- Google has begun testing a new interface for the Google app’s search suggestions list.
- The user interface shows suggested searches as well as your most recent searches in the form of maps with rounded corners at the top and bottom of the list.
- The experimental redesign has appeared in the latest Android 13 beta.
Google seems to be experimenting with a minor design change to the Google app’s search suggestions list, showing a better implementation of Material You design.
The latest Android 13 (opens in new tab) beta includes a new interface for the Google app search list, which shows suggestions along with your most recent searches, as seen by 9to5Google (opens in new tab). In the experimental user interface, all of these elements are contained in a map with rounded corners at the top and bottom of the list.
The user interface currently only shows suggested items and previous searches in plain text. These suggestions appear after you enter a few letters or words to complete your search automatically.
As usual, the icons to the left of each item indicate whether it is a suggestion or a recent search. However, these icons are now surrounded by a circle. The map also spans the entire width of the app window, giving you plenty of room to tap.
9to5 noted that the redesigned search list may also appear in the Pixel Launcher search on the device when Google restores the feature in a future Android 13 beta build.
Currently, the user interface is part of an A / B test and is available in Google app version 13.20. The final Android 13 beta build is expected in July, so the new UI design will most likely be available this summer on the best Android phones (opens in new tab).
The upcoming UI change will be a great addition to the Google app search experience. Additionally, text suggestions may appear on Pixel Launcher’s search bar (opens in new tab) in the near future along with widgets and saved screenshots.
But this is not the only upgrade the search giant is working on, as Pixel Launcher is expected to get new search shortcuts (opens in new tab) to Google Maps, Play Store and YouTube.
