Samsung Galaxy Watch4 gets its first beta update, here is how to get it

One UI 4.5 comes with Wear OS 3.5, enhanced dual SIM support for calls and more

Samsung has so far only opened One UI beta apps for its Galaxy phones and tablets. This changed last week when it announced a One UI Watch beta for the Galaxy Watch4. That app is now live, and it brings with it an upcoming build of One UI 4.5 that avid Galaxy smartwatch users can try.

What’s new in the One UI 4.5 beta update

The One UI 4.5 update for Galaxy Watch4 promises to be a significant update with lots of new changes and features (via r / GalaxyWatch4). This includes new duo edge / box complications, an upgraded watch screen, new dials, an overall composer with draft support when replying to messages, supporting additional fields while messages are displayed, and more. One UI 4.5 for the Galaxy Watch will be based on Wear OS 3.5, a minor bump from version 3.2 that the smartwatch is currently running. The firmware also brings dual SIM support, allowing you to select your preferred SIM card when making a call from your laptop. Galaxy Watch is currently using the first added line to make calls.

How to get One UI 4.5 beta

One UI 4.5 beta is only live in the US and South Korea so far, with the VE7 firmware coming in as a hefty 796 MB download. The application is also available exclusively for Samsung smartphone users and for the only Bluetooth versions of Watch4 and Watch4 Classic.

If you meet the above requirements, you can try to get your fingers on the firmware by following these steps:

  1. In it Samsung Members apptap the One UI Watch beta application banner.
  2. Wait for the Korean company to accept your application.
  3. Once accepted, be sure to install beta version of the Galaxy Wearable app to ensure that there are no compatibility issues.

Unfortunately, there is no way to cut the line and you should be lucky enough to be approved for the beta program by Samsung, but this is your best chance to get an early glimpse of the new One UI Watch release.

Based on Samsung’s previous track record, Watch4’s One UI beta program should be extended to China, India and other countries in the coming weeks. Note that once you have installed the beta on your Galaxy smartwatch, you can not downgrade to the latest stable release if you decide to leave the application midway. In the worst case, you will be stuck with the buggy firmware that your watch is running until Samsung rolls out a new stable update.
