Borderlands’ adventure game spinoff comes back with something completely new. That Stories from the border country the series returns later this year with a new game in the interactive fiction style, Gearbox announced at PAX East on Thursday.
While the details of the project were very light, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford let fans know how different the project will be from the previous game.
“This time we’re doing it to imagine brand new characters and brand new stories from Borderlands,” Pritchford told the audience in the studio’s PAX East show. “Soon we will be announcing a brand new game that takes place in the Borderlands universe and is presented in that style of interactive fiction. I’m talking about a brand new Stories from the border country fairy tale.”
Stories from the border country was originally developed by TellTale Games and tells a story of five episodic releases. After the Telltale Games closed in 2018, the franchise was sold to 2K Games, the owner of the Borderlands franchise. This latest game will be released by 2K and developed by Borderland’s studio Gearbox. In fact, according to Pitchford, Gearbox has already worked on the new one Stories from the border country played in secret for the last many years.
Pitchford also told the audience that they could expect a full unveiling of the new game sometime this summer before it is released later this year.
