Amazon Prime is raffling off one of the best survival horror games ever. Nowadays, the horror genre is incredibly underserved, mostly because outside of a few major IPs – e.g. Resident Evil – The return on investment on AAA horror games is just not there. And that’s why the genre is now largely carried by indie and AA games. It was not always like that. There was a time once when horror was probably convinced. The Xbox 360 and PS3 generation was not one of those generations, but it did produce some of the best horror games and series, such as Death Space, which brings us to Amazon Prime’s new freebie.
In addition to five other games, Amazon Prime subscribers, via Prime Gaming, can claim Dead Space 2 for free. The game must be claimed in May, because in June the agreement expires. But once it’s been claimed, it’s yours to keep and play as much or as little as you want.
As for the game itself, Dead Space 2 is a third-person shooter for survival thrills developed by the now defunct Visceral Games and published by EA. Released in 2011 via the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, it scored 90 on Metacritic and sold millions of copies. It is, of course, a follow-up to the 2008s Dead Space.
“Three years after the Necromorph attack aboard the USS Ishimura, Isaac Clarke wakes up from a coma, confused, disoriented, and on a space station called The Sprawl,” reads an official elevator pitch from the game. “Explore this world and its zero-g environments to discover the truth about Unitology and its role in the Necromorph epidemic.”
With a remake of the first Dead Space games that are currently under development are now a good time to get into what is undeniably one of the best survival horror series. Of course, if the remake does well, it’s likely to either lead to one Dead Space 2 or a brand new episode in the series or both.
That said, it’s important to remember that this offer is limited to Amazon Prime subscribers. Also, it’s only for a digital PC code, so if you’re on the console you’re unlucky.
