The latest Android Auto update fixes S22 issues for some while Pixel owners get stuck

Not everyone gets the corrections they have been waiting for

Not everything has worked smoothly for some owners of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series trying to connect their new phones to Android Auto. Instead, a significant number of users report that USB cables only end up charging the phone, instead of connecting it to the system as it should. We’ve been hearing about this issue ever since the S22 landed back in February, and while some affected users were able to get things working by playing around with the cable a bit, a more definitive solution seems to be starting to arrive. through a new update.

According to the latest comments on the Google Support threads (via 9to5Google), the latest update of the Android Auto app (v7.7) fixes the cable issue and allows the Galaxy S22 to connect normally. The update is currently in beta rollout, but you can skip the wait by manually downloading it from APKMirror.

Unfortunately, this new release is not exactly a universal panacea. Some S22 users now see a black screen on Android Auto after a seemingly successful connection – and these even include those who previously had no issues at all. It’s not clear what’s going on here, but from what we can see, Google still has something to fix.

To reconcile the mess, this is not just the Galaxy S22, our issues are linked to, and Google Pixel owners have also complained about it (across multiple Pixel models). They also seem to feel a little worse – not only does the phone’s screen go black, but it also restarts sometimes when it’s disconnected from Android Auto. Oddly enough, the issue is currently marked as “Resolved” on Google’s Issue Tracker, despite a few comments claiming it continues. We certainly hope that this means that an actual solution will come soon, because so far this headache only feels as if it is spreading.
