In an attempt to do RS 5 more of a cab – and more competitive with BMW M and Mercedes-AMG machines – Audi gives RS 5 a new competition package. You get some serious performance goodies – but it all comes at a serious price.
This is not one of those packages that only shows appearance and is not present, which is popular among car manufacturers. Marking the check box for the competition package should really make the RS 5 an even more sporty machine. Available on both the RS 5 Coupe and RS 5 Sportback, the feature will set you back $ 16,100.
Although the Competition package does not change anything about the RS 5’s 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, which provides 444 horsepower, you get an increased top speed: 188 mph, higher than both the standard RS 5’s 155 mph top speed and Dynamic package max. 174 mph .

The Competition package also adds a tuned sports exhaust system with matte black tubes, giving what Audi describes as a “more intense sound.” Instead of going the route of artificially touching the engine sound into the cabin, Audi did the gentleman’s work, reducing the sound insulation between the engine compartment and the interior. Not only does this provide more engine noise, Audi says it shaves 18 pounds out of the car.
The rear sports differential has been tuned for better handling when the car is in dynamic mode, and Audi says the steering in Sport mode is more precise. A software update for the transmission provides faster shifts depending on the driving condition, and carbon-ceramic brakes allow the RS 5 to stop six feet shorter from 60 mph. Competition models run on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
The best part of all this is the factory setup of the coilover suspension. Together with sway brackets at the front and rear, the RS 5s with the Competition package will sit 10 mm lower than standard cars, with an additional 10 mm manual adjustment available to owners.
Competition-equipped cars will also not just look like any other RS 5. You will be able to distinguish them from each other using carbon fiber bits on the front and rear diffusers, under the bonnet and on the engine and mirrors along with black Audi emblems. There is also a package-exclusive Sebring Black crystal effect paint.
Inside you will find Nappa leather covering contrast-stitched seats; an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, gear lever and center console; and a special Audi Virtual Cockpit setup.
The RS 5 Competition Package will go on sale in June. Remember, it all does not come cheap. The RS 5 coupe starts at $ 75,900, and the Sportback at $ 76,200; Adding the competition package means that you are approaching the six-digit number for your RS 5 competition.
