Listen, I did not want to do this. I did not “give Fortnite props ”on today’s to-do list. But if nothing else, then I’m a provider of truth, and the truth is that Battle Royale’s third Street Fighter Cooperation looks surprisingly amazing.
(Correction, 26/04/2022, 17:55 EST: An earlier version of this history erroneously referred to this event as Fortnite‘s other Street Fighter crossover. We apologize for the inconvenience.)
Starting later in the week, Fortnite players will be able to adorn themselves in skins based on Street Fighter the characters Sakura Kasugano and Blanka, who both come with an extra outfit each. Sakura’s training clothes are fairly standard for Ryu’s athletic protégé, but Blanka’s business suit paints the voracious world warrior in a completely different light.
The official Fortnite blog explains that Blanka’s spiffy alternative ensemble is based on rival schools boxer Boman Delgado, but I personally can not see it. Delgado’s suits are blue and white rather than a monochromatic gray, and the buttons on both outfits are completely different. However, I will say that I love Blanka still not wearing shoes even while sporting more stylish duds.
In any case, I probably would have laughed you in the face just a day ago if you said Fortnite should contain even a flimsy rival schools crossover, so I guess I should not be so picky.
Also included in this Street Fighter the event is the usual themed accessory as well as appropriate emotions like Sakura’s victory swiss and Blanka’s somersault, both of which come directly from their original franchise.
I have given Fortnite a lot of shit In the past. I do not like the way it swallows features with its almost endless budget, especially when these crossovers do not represent the absolute minimum of what the original film or game was about. And I want to be right here and say this second attempt to intervene Street Fighter does not make me play Fortnite (or Street Fighter Vfor that matter) anytime soon.
But Blanka in a suit? It is undeniably special. Good on you, Jimmy.
