Destiny 2’s Guardian Games brings Strike Scoring back next week

Destiny 2’s Guardian Games will make its third annual return to Tower on May 3rd. The competition for which of the three Guardian classes is the second and third best (it’s a poorly kept secret that the Titans are apparently first) starts on Tuesday and runs until the end of the season, May 24th.

As usual, players will take on small missions to earn medals and hand them over to increase their class’ position in the ranks. But this year, Bungie is bringing back an oft-requested feature during the event: Strike Scoring.

Instead of rushing through the Strikes, players will be given special quests to do as much damage as possible, and kill enemies in unique ways. This feature is reflected in two different Strike playlists: Training and Competition. The training playlist will be active Tuesday through Thursday each week. The rest of the week – Friday through Monday – players can jump into the competition playlist to earn better rewards.

Achieving high scores allows players to unlock torches in the Tower, giving their Guardian a special glow on their right shoulder. Players can get glow on their left shoulders by submitting medals to help their class win. For their convenience, players will earn the new “The Title” submachine gun, which comes with a special Origin perk called the Classy Contender (kills the reimbursement class’s abilities).

Bungie also makes small adjustments to the weighting of medal payments for the event – due to the discrepancy in the player population among the classes. Classes that fall behind and place in second or third place will have proportional multipliers for the rest of the event. This will also take into account data from last season, which means that the Titans (who received third place last year, despite the victory in 2020) will get the biggest boost. The Warlocks will get a small boost to become number two, and the Hunters will receive very little boost since they won in 2021.

Finally, Bungie announced that some exciting loot is coming Fate 2 on May 24 with the new season. The seasonal ritual weapon will be a machine gun called the Chain of Command. Players will also be able to earn Horror’s Least pulse rifle from Nightfalls, as well as the beloved DFA hand cannon. Trials of Osiris will get Forgiveness sidearm and Burden of Guilt fusion rifle.

But before players can get their hands on the new weapons, they will have to throw the glove down in the Guardian games in 2022. May the best class win.
