Galaxy Watch5 Pro drops possibly Samsung’s most iconic feature

This could be the end of Samsung’s age-old, click-like rotating bezel

The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 series has been in the rumor mill for several months now, with many features and upgrades pending. Some, such as better battery life, are indifferent, while others, like the rumored built-in thermometer, present a bit of a head scraper in terms of how the company would implement them. Amid all the leak, new reports suggest that the Galaxy Watch5 series will lose an important physical feature that has been present in at least one variant of Samsung’s smartwatches since the Gear S2.

One of the best features of the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 classic is the iconic rotating bezel that allows you to easily scroll through menus. But just as rumors suggest that Samsung will not release a Watch5 Classic this year, it looks like the clicking rotating frame will not continue with the Watch5 series either, at least according to the reliable delicious Ice Universe. Until now, you would not have been far from believing that at least one variant of Samsung’s next-generation watches (probably the Watch5 Pro) would have got the feature.

If rumor has it, Samsung will remove a practical and much-loved feature that does not adversely affect the device’s appearance, waterproofing or durability. Although it is unclear why the company would do away with the rotating frame, the situation is not entirely bleak. It could replace it with the digital bezel we saw on the Galaxy Watch4 and previous Galaxy watches.

Earlier this month, leaked Watch5 code names – Heart-S, Heart-L and Heart-Pro – suggested that Samsung is working on three device variants with the model numbers SM-R90x, SM-R91x and SM-R92x, respectively. All three models will have different sizes. They are also touted as having much-needed battery improvements wherever the smaller variants get a capacity bump of 10 percent compared to the respective Galaxy Watch4 models. The upcoming pro model may even get a massive 60 percent increase from the exclusive member of the Galaxy Watch4 series.
