God of War Ragnarök developer assures gamers it’s still coming in 2022 | VGC

God of War Ragnarök is still on the way to release this year, according to one of the game’s leading developers.

On Wednesday, Sony Santa Monica Studio tweeted a video by Cory Barlog asking fans to be patient with news of the upcoming God of War sequel.

This message received several responses from followers who were concerned that the continued lack of information about the game means it could be delayed until 2023.

The video was also tweeted by the game’s animation director Bruno Velazquez, who was asked by a follower: “Bruno, assure us it’s coming this year 100%”.

Velazquez did categorically as the follower asked answers: “Ragnarok is coming this year.”

In Wednesday’s video, Barlog – who revealed in September last year that he did not return to instruct Ragnarök – addressed a lack of updates on the game.

“Speaking of God of War Ragnarök, the elephant in space … We have not said much about this – it’s because everyone is upside down, hard at work,” he said.

“We’re perfectionists. Everyone’s tightening up on level three graphics is happening so much right now that I just wish we could share it with you, but it’s just not ready to be shown.

“But I guarantee you, at that moment, the very second we have something that we are ready to share, we will share it, because we do not want to hold any of this back.

“So hold on tight, know that there’s something cool going on and that we, all here at Santa Monica, are so incredibly grateful for all the support you’ve given us.”

Although Barlog does not direct, the sequel is instead directed by the series’ veteran Eric Williams, who joined Santa Monica Studio in 2004 and has worked on all God of War games as a designer, specifically focused on combat.
