What you need to know
- A source who sent the photos to Android Central said that what could be the Pixel Watch was left behind and found at a restaurant in the US
- The images of what could be the watch seem to match many rumors that have been leaked, including the minimalist design, the crown and a potential hidden button.
- It looks like the watch has proprietary Google links.
- We do not know what the charge will look like as the watch did not come with a charger.
A Google Pixel Watch was apparently left behind and found in a restaurant in the US, and the photos sent by a source to Android Central look like what could be Google’s first smartwatch.
Android Central has reviewed the images of the watch that could be announced during Google I / O next month. It is possible that the watch itself could be released along with Pixel 7.
The source, whom we have left anonymous to protect their identity, said the watch, which could be “a test model for the Internal Pixel team”, was found at a restaurant.
The leak is very reminiscent of when Gizmodo reported on the iPhone 4 prototype that was dropped and found at a bar. The phone was camouflaged to look like an iPhone 3GS.
If the pictures are real, this is the first time we’ve seen the rumored watch called “Rohan.” 9to5Google found the code hidden in a Google update, indicating that the Pixel Watch will use an Exynos chipset instead of the Snapdragon model found in most Wear OS 3 qualified watches.
The clock on our photos looks almost identical to leaks of rumors reproduced photos. It has a minimalist design and follows what leaks have suggested a screen with almost no frames. The image also confirms one of the colors of the rumors that the watch comes in: black.
Previous rumors have suggested that the watch will have a rotating crown and potentially two hidden buttons.
It’s a little hard to tell from the picture above, but if this is the rumored watch, then there is definitely at least one button next to the crown.
Looking at the pictures above, it looks like the watch band is a proprietary Google band and very similar to the jelly-like Apple Watch sports bands. That may mean we can see many more colors on the way. It also looks like it is put directly on the watch case.
This can make it difficult to replace watch straps, especially when most of the other top Android smartwatches give you more leeway with standard watch strap types.
No charger was left with the watch, but it is possible that the watch could be charged from the back of the watch case. This is how the Fitbits Versa 3 and Sense smartwatches (Fitbit owned by Google) and Apple Watch are also charged.
The source indicated that the bottom “looks metallic, but feels like it is coated with glass.”
In this particular image shown above, we can see what looks like tips in one of the band slits. It is possible that this is only a technical sample used for testing and will not be there on a production release.
We can not be sure, but the watch can also have the Qi standard, which allows for wireless charging.
Because the watch did not come with a charger, we can not be sure what is happening inside.
The source indicated that nothing happened past the boot logo when they tried to turn it on, which you can see in the image above. This probably means that no OS is installed on the watch yet.
We know Google will use the new Wear OS 3 developed with Samsung, but we could also expect Google to put its own Pixel-like spin on the software.
The last thing to note, we do not know the regions where Google plans to release the watch, but it is possible that it will include North America, Canada and the EU
According to this image, a small note at the bottom of the box states: “This device has not been approved as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission and Industry Canada, nor has it been tested for compliance with EU rules.”
It also notes that this model is for “internal testing and development only” and that “the markings and packaging are not final.”
