Google teases iPhone users with its switch to Android app

Google quietly uploaded a new app to the Apple App Store called Switch to Android. Although the app is not currently on the list, it is designed for iPhone users to switch to an Android phone. That way, new Android users can keep their iPhone data without having to move everything manually.

Apple already has a similar app called Move to iOS available in the Google Play Store. It looks like Google is releasing this app as a direct response to the popular Move to iOS app.

What has changed to the Android app?

The switch to the Android app is for new Android users who have previously used an iPhone. The app easily transfers your data from your iPhone to your new Android device. The app easily moves your photos, videos, contacts and events to your new Android device.

While Google makes it easier to switch, the app lacks some features. For example, you will not be able to transfer your apps. It also does not transmit messages or web history. Move to the iOS app downloads these, as well as apps whose apps are available for free in the Apple App Store.

Although it seems that the Switch to Android app does not have as many features as Move to iOS, it may get these features in the future.

Why is Google releasing Switch to Android now?

Move to the iOS app has been in the Google Play Store since 2015. Google releases the Switch To Android app now (in April 2022) raises questions about why.

Many people may not be aware of this, but Android phones actually dominate the world market. Over 85 percent of smartphones are Android phones. This may mean that Google did not feel the need to release this app.

But with this new app coming out soon, it looks like this process is getting easier. This also signals that Google may start looking for more of Apple’s market share and converting more iPhone users to Android.

Even if the app is not currently on the list and you can not search for it, you can still download it. To do so, go to the Switch to Android App Store page using the link. You need to open this link on an iPhone for it to work properly. Then press Few and download the app.

As the app is not yet public, it may be missing some features. However, you can give this app a go and see if it is for you.

Need to switch to Android from iOS?

While Apple is the sole maker of iOS devices, there are many companies making Android devices like Samsung, Motorola and Google. This gives you more flexibility to choose a phone you like if you do not like Apple devices.

However, iPhones have a lot of features. Since Apple has to compete with multiple companies at once, the company is usually at the top. There are constant updates and new releases. Apple devices are also said to be easier to use by some.
