Google will make sure you know all about its recent changes to Android through Play Services

You always know exactly when new features have been added to your phone

Every three months, Pixel owners receive a handful of updates delivered to their phones directly from Google in the form of a Feature Drop. These exclusive features are designed to make the company’s flagship phone experience even better, but it’s not the only way it’s bringing new content to Android. Updates through Play Services – known as Android Feature Drops – can deliver all sorts of new experiences to any device, and Google wants to make sure you know everything about them.

As seen by Esper.ios Mishaal Rahman, Play Services will start warning users about features added through Android Feature Drops. Although the service is not live yet, it seems on these screenshots that these splash pages will present themselves when the Play Store first opens after an update. It looks awfully familiar with Pixel Feature Drop prompts that appeared after the March patch, but for all Android users.

Many of your phone’s most exciting changes have been rolled out over the last few years through Play Services, and these screens should make it much clearer when new features are ready to be used. You may not need these cards if you keep up with all the latest app updates – for example by reading a determined Android-focused website. Fortunately, they can be skipped right from the first post.

It’s not clear when Google will finally break these out for users, but it looks like the next major upgrade to Play Services would provide good timing. March Android Feature Drop included changes to Google Messages, Digital Wellbeing, Gboard and more.
