I’m done with ‘Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’

This week, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands launched a new patch and new DLC. Usually this would be something to encourage further gameplay and provide a reason to return for more farming. But for me, it has had the opposite effect, and I think it’s time for me to move on from the game as one of my “farmable looter” rotators.

First, the patch did something I did not like very much, namely jack up Chaos Levels to a new max of 35 and introduced a new rarity of gear at. to max level. This is two months after the release of the game, and I was finally just starting to find my track in the Elite Chaos 20 missions and started in earnest in the hunt for fleeting weapons (which only drop to level 20).

Now? It feels like a blanket pull that I have now another 15 levels to grind through after the 20 I just finished, and the top gear I had just started cultivating across a few characters is now outclassed right away. It doesn’t really help either only farming you can do in Wonderlands is to run Chaos Dungeons, as regardless of Chaos Level, they basically do not change, so you just run the same cards with the same enemies on repeat. It is far from the wider range of playoff activities in Borderlands itself.

That might have to change with this week’s DLC, but it had the opposite effect. I talked a bit about this yesterday, but this is a seriously awful DLC, which is very uncharacteristic of Gearbox, where their Borderlands DLC is some of the best in the business.

Here, the new $ 10 Coiled Captors DLC is basically just a unique new dungeon, one without modifiers and with a lighter boss than dungeons (though it gets harder in the next few weeks). A whole round of content takes 7-10 minutes, and unlike Chaos Dungeons, there is no big loot explosion of selection at the end, just what falls from the boss (I got nothing) and some spins of a wheel left at the base, who randomly distributes new prey.

The other problem is that the other four DLCs that come with the season card seem to be more of the same. Several of these simplified dungeons, probably with new enemies and bosses, but the same concept. No story content and a worse endgame farming loop than Chaos Dungeons, which already exists (and even gets repeated). In short, I’ve kind of hit a wall with this game, both in terms of all the new random Chaos Levels that have suddenly been added, and now knowing that the rest of the season-long DLC will not really be anything remarkable , given what we’ve seen only for Coiled Captors.

I’m not sorry, I’ve had fun across three characters so far and a whole lot of hours put in. I enjoyed my time. But as a long-term grind, I would probably call it a day if it’s the kind of post-launch updates that get. Instead, I’m waiting for Borderlands 4 and the new Tales from the Borderlands game.
