Microsoft has consistently tried to get more people to use Edge. Some of the ways it has pursued this goal have been less well received than others, but its recent efforts to do so could be a useful addition to the software. In a spotted by the company revealed that it is adding a free built-in VPN service called Edge Secure Network to its web browser.
The company says the tool will encrypt your internet connection. You can use this feature to protect your data from your ISP. As with most VPNs, you can also use the Edge Secure Network to mask your location, allowing you to access services that might otherwise be blocked in the country where you live or visit.
If you find that you travel frequently, chances are that the Edge Secure Network will not replace a paid VPN. The feature limits you to 1 GB of data usage per month. It is also worth noting that you will need a Microsoft account to use the service. Microsoft has not yet started testing VPNs. But once the feature is available, you will be able to activate it via the Edges icon with three dots. A new option titled “Secure Network” will turn on VPN. When you have finished browsing, it automatically shuts off again.
