Motorola’s next affordable smartphones get a full revelation in the latest leak

These mid-range devices can be launched at any time now

Last month, Motorola’s launch roadmap was leaked, revealing the company’s plans to release four more Edge phones this year. One of the options was the vanilla Motorola Edge 30 (codenamed Dubai). We’ve already seen some of the phone’s supposed specifications, but now we get to see the device – along with the Moto G 5G (2022) – in all its glory, thanks to leaked official photos.

The famously delicious Evan Blass posted the pictures on 91mobiles. The first thing you notice is how similar the Edge 30 looks to the already released Motorola Edge +. The back shows a triple camera setup in a similar style (with a primary 50 MP, 50 MP wide angle and 2 MP depth sensor), while the same centered hole (with a 32 MP front-facing camera) sits on the screen.

Unlike the flagship Edge +, which has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, the base Edge 30 will be positioned as a mid-range device. It gets a Snapdragon 778G + processor paired with 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage space. In addition, it will be powered by a smaller battery ship of 4,020 mAh (with 33W fast charging) compared to the Edge +’s 4800mAh with 68W fast charging. The phone’s 6.55-inch pOLED screen is expected to have a standard resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 with a 144Hz refresh rate.

Meanwhile, the Moto G 5G (2022), codenamed Austin, shares aspects of its look with the Edge 30 – the front and rear camera layouts are similar. However, it only gets one 50MP sensor for the primary camera with two 2MP lenses for macro images and depth sensing – there is a 13MP front-facing camera. The Moto G 5G also has thicker frames and incorporates a fingerprint scanner in the phone’s on / off button.

The specifications suggest that the Moto G 5G will be more budget friendly than the Edge 30. It will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC along with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. The 6.53-inch screen gets the biggest hit here, reduced to just a resolution of 720 x 1,600 and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. That said, it will compensate for those specs with a massive 5,000 mAh battery capacity – though the maximum charging speed will be just 15W.

Launch dates are still in the air, but the report suggests that the Motorola Edge 30 will go on sale globally before the end of the month. There is no word on the availability of the Moto G 5 G yet.
