A new video released by the Call of Duty content creator NerosCinema has apparently outlined new details about Call of Duty Warzone 2 that I have been able to independently verify with my own sources.
Sources have suggested that most of the information in the video is actually accurate, with a few inconsistencies here and there.
We will not cover most of what was said in NerosCinema’s video, so we suggest you check out his video. Instead, we will discuss three key details; Strongholds, Warzone 2 and DMZ card and recurring cards from Call of Duty.
Return of card
As mentioned in my early report last November for Modern Warfare 2 (via VGC), old maps will return to not only the core title, but to the Warzone 2 map itself. Within the Warzone 2 map, the maps have been added and expanded according to my original report.
The final POI names for the map itself have not yet been determined, but I can still outline a few of these maps and their locations in Warzone 2.
High rise
Highrise is located at the top right of the map under the POI name “Modern City.” Modern City contains, as expected, a large city with a lot of skyscrapers and tall buildings, which should satisfy players who have missed Verdansk from the original Warzone game.
Quarry
Quarry is located at the top left of the map under the POI name “Quarry”.
Terminal
The terminal is located at the bottom right of the map under the POI name “Airport”. This is one of three places on the map with a large stronghold.
Afghan
The Afghan is located towards the center of the map, but slightly to the left under the POI name “Caves”.
There are also several other POI locations that could also include several Modern Warfare 2 maps, including “Mountain Town”, which is located next to the Observatory in the middle of the map, which could include the Fevala.
There are also several sites that seem to suggest a few more maps, but sources could not confirm the information prior to the publication of this article.
strongholds
Strongholds is something I’ve been sitting on for a while, and with Neroscinema’s latest video putting the Stronghold information out into the wild, I wanted to explain them a little more.
Strongholds is located across the entire map and will give players something extra to do instead of just buying your Loadout at a shopping station. There are about 25-30 of them scattered all over the map (probably as many as the usual shopping malls we have been used to).
There are also several different layers of Strongholds, with three large strongholds and about 20-25 smaller strongholds scattered around the map. Strongholds are typically guarded by AI and contain goals that you must complete to access your loadout.
Presumably, the harder the stronghold, the greater the reward. Not all POIs also have strongholds, just as a presumably heavily trafficked area like Modern City does not have any at all.
Although Warzone 2 is still under development, Strongholds was described to me as being a new dynamic element to get players to think carefully about their decisions, because once a Stronghold has been taken, no other players can access it.
If there are no fortresses available in your area, either move to the next available location or wait for the train to appear that stretches across the entire map.
Warzone is also no stranger to AI, with AI first incorporated into the Caldera several months ago, which would likely measure how society would respond to the feature.
Warzone 2 and DMZ
Ever since my first report, I have been reporting that Warzone 2 and DMZ will have the same map, which I think is still true. Back in December 2021, a source sent me the first footage and photos of the new DMZ card, which contains small icons for targets.
I was able to confirm the video and photos with other sources who had said the footage was from DMZ. Now, almost six months later, a newly acquired source has sent me the Warzone 2 card, which is identical to the DMZ card.
At least for me, this confirms that Warzone 2 and DMZ will share the same map, with each mode having a different gameplay loop. I have that too reported earlier that DMZ has been under development for several years, and the map itself is designed with both DMZ and Warzone 2 in mind.
If you are not familiar with what DMZ will be, it is Modern Warfare 2’s third game mode that will be Call of Duty’s bid for an extraction-based game mode. Players will battle against other players and AI as they try to complete goals, plunder and extract.
Modern Warfare 2 is expected to be released later this year with a trailer unveiling date of June 8th.
