Lite Hash Rate Version 3 unlocked at 90%
Following the news of the LHRv2 crack, it took only two weeks before the LHRv3 was also cracked.
Earlier this month, the developers of NiceHash confirmed that they successfully cracked the LHR (Lite Hash Rate) algorithm implemented by NVIDIA for its GeForce RTX 30 graphics card to limit the cryptocurrency mining potential. The LHRv1 and LHRv2 models are now fully unlocked through software, with no special hardware requirements.
What was left of the LHR-RTX saga were two GeForce cards: RTX 3050 8GB and RTX 3080 12GB. These models had a new version of the algorithm that had not yet been cracked. It turns out that it was not really a big problem, as the updated algorithm has just been cracked in 90%, reports Tom’s Hardware.
NiceHash QuickMiner v0.5.4.2 RC requires NVIDIA 512.15 driver or later to work. Tom’s Hardware came up with a chart showing all RTX 3060 + models with their equivalent hash speed performance as it is now:
NVIDIA RTX 30 ETH Mining Speed (via Tom’s Hardware) | |
---|---|
Nvidia GeForce model | Unlocked or * 90% hash rate |
RTX 3050 LHRv3 | ~ * 41 MH / s |
RTX 3060 LHR or LHRv2 | ~ 50 MH / s |
RTX 3060 Ti LHRv2 | ~ 60 MH / s |
RTX 3070 LHRv2 | ~ 60 MH / s |
RTX 3070 Ti LHRv2 | ~ 81 MH / s |
RTX 3080 10GB LHRv2 | ~ 98 MH / s |
RTX 3080 12GB LHRv3 | ~ * 90 MH / s |
RTX 3080 Ti LHRv2 | ~ 120 MH / s |
This LHRv3 unlocking is likely to mean something too late. Most cryptocurrencies related to GPU mining have lost a significant portion of their value, to the point where it is simply not profitable to mine, otherwise the return on investment will take much more time. Hopefully no one will buy the RTX 3050 cards at entry level just because of the new LHRv3 unlock. This model is still one of the most overcharged NVIDIA cards, just when they are most needed.
