Whatever your concerns are with the latest Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, we can all agree that it definitely has some good things in store. One of the best is that the re-release includes not only the PlayStation classic Chrono Cross, but the visual novel Satellaview Radical dreamerswho had never before seen an official location or release outside of Japan.
Back in March, the official Chrono Cross Twitter asked fans to come up with some questions for the development team. The first of them has been selected and answered by Chrono Cross’ author and director Masato Kato.
Twitter user Almos Knight wanted to know what the basis was for finally releasing Radical Dreamers. Stuck on the Japanese Super Famicom equipment, many games are believed to have been lost or are difficult to transfer to consoles. And Masato Kato had a very simple answer.
Here is the full quote from the instructor:
It is over 20 years since Radical Dreamers -Le Trésor Interdit- was first released.
Apparently, Radical Dreamers were sold for insane prices, so when I was contacted this time about porting the game, I thought “Fine, keep it up.”
“Well, keep going then” may be the most blasé response to re-releasing a lost video game, but it’s fun. But perhaps, more interestingly, Kato mentions the prices of the original Radical Dreamers. So it sounds like Kato was encouraged to make his game more accessible because people were profiting from a rare release. Wow, that’s pretty awesome.
Scalping has long been a problem in the video game industry, and if more instructors and studios took this approach, we would be able to access quite a few more rare video games at affordable prices. We have compiled a list of 10 JRPGs and the likelihood of them coming to Switch, and some of these items are already quite expensive:
Radical Dreamers is a rather unusual game that resembles a text adventure. You guide Serge, Kid and Magil through Viper Manor to get an artifact called Frozen Flame. The game is quite short and there are several endings, which means you can add to yours Chrono series lore many times.
What do you think of Masato Kato’s answer? And are you glad we finally got Radical Dreamers? Tell us in the comments.
