Several footage from Kirby’s canceled GameCube game

For a very, very long time, Nintendo and HAL were trying to get a pseudo-3D Kirby game to work on the GameCube. The two companies tried for years to bring the project together so much that the project continued testing after the GameCub had come and gone. That project was eventually shelved, but today gives us another glimpse of what almost was.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen gameplay for the title, but it shows a few things we’ve never seen before. You can certainly see how the style of this game eventually led to ideas in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, but the style and overall approach of that Wii release ended up being a whole different one.

This project, even though it was first born decades ago, would ultimately pave the way for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Without these attempts, missteps and failed prototypes on the GameCube, Kirby may never have made its 3D debut in 2022!
