Google is rolling out a new update for Android Auto that brings the app update to version 7.6 for all Android users.
While the specific version number tends to vary from device to device, Android Auto 7.6 is the latest notable update to the service, arriving about a month after the 7.5 update. The update started rolling out last week, but from this weekend it seems to have become widespread to all users.
The Android Auto app is usually pre-installed on modern Android smartphones, but gets its updates from the Play Store instead of complete system updates. Although this app lacks any support to display a car-friendly experience on your phone screen, it is necessary to run the experience in supported cars. You need to have the Android Auto app installed and preferably updated to run Android Auto over a wired or wireless connection.
Sometimes Android Auto updates will deliver great new features or fixes to the platform, but others are more minor. A large number of bumps, like v8.0, would definitely mean a major update. However, 0.1 updates tend to be more on the smaller side.
While we wait anxiously for Google’s next redesign for Android Auto, version 7.6 does not seem to deliver that overhaul. On the contrary, this update is likely to roll out to squash bugs with apps, Google Assistant, and other parts of the Android Auto experience. If we had to guess, that power also help with the rollout of quick responses that started popping up for beta users last week.
The Google Play Store may have already updated your Android Auto app automatically in the background, but if not, you can click here to manually check for updates.
