The Elden Ring player notices terrible details about shrimp monsters

An Elden Ring player notices an awful detail on the lesser-known root-shrimp monsters that makes them even more creepy.

Elden Ring has no shortage of terrifying creatures that players can encounter, with all the questions of indescribable horrors lurking behind every corner. Some of these Elden Ring monsters are downright disturbing, with Lesser Kindred of Rot being some of the more sinister monsters that players can find in the game’s vast open world.

Elden Ring players may encounter Lesser Kindred of Rot at various points in the game, though they are likely to encounter them first as they explore the ruthless region of Caelid. These two-legged shrimp monsters can be found in caves and other places, usually armed with spears that can inflict Scarlet Root on anyone unlucky enough to be hit by them. Their shrimp-like appearance makes the Lesser Kindred of Rot look very rough in itself, but a closer examination reveals a particularly nervous detail in their design.

Reddit user theonewithcats shared a screenshot of one of Lesser Kindred of Rot while lying on his back, giving fans a closer look at its underside. While some players may have thought that the various pendants sticking out of its body were shrimp or feeler horns of some sort, closer inspection confirms that they are in fact human-like arms and hands.

This disturbing detail ensures that the Lesser Kindred of Rot fits right in with many of the others Elden Ring monstrosities that players will encounter during the course of the game. A common theme with the enemy’s design in the game is that creatures have many more limbs than usual, and often these limbs have been grafted onto their bodies. One of Elden Ring‘s first great boss, Godrick the Grafted, is one such person, with all sorts of different limbs attached to his body.

Elden Ring players are introduced to this “grafted” concept very early in the game. In fact, the first boss that players ever struggle with is the grafted Scion that one encounters right after players have made their character and step outside the Chapel of Anticipation. The Grafted Scion boss fight in the beginning of Elden Ring helps set the tone and lets players know that they are going to experience some disturbing sights during their adventure.

Computer miners have found evidence of that Elden Ring once had a bestiary for players to complete. If the bestiary reached into the last game, one has to wonder if it would have included some more details about the various creatures that the players encounter in the game. If so, players could have learned more about Lesser Kindred of Rot and the like, but perhaps one is better off not knowing the origins behind the game’s monsters.

Elden Ring is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
