What you need to know
- Google has previously teased new features coming to the Pixel At a Glance widget.
- Some users have already received some features such as earthquake alarms.
- Several Pixel users have begun to receive the latest features at a glance, including security checks and connected devices.
Pixel owners receive a few new features for the At a Glance widget. These features were previously announced with the March 2022 Feature Drop along with a new battery widget and more.
While some users occasionally received earthquake alerts and “Security Check” features on their Pixel devices, they did not show up for everyone. However, it seems that more users are receiving the alerts (as of 9to5Google) along with the new “Connected Devices” feature.
A cursory glance at my Pixel 6 Pro actually shows that these features are now live. Each new feature appears in the Summary settings. As a quick refresh, Security Check connects to the Personal Security app and displays the countdown on the At a Glance widget when you turn on the feature. Earthquake alarms will alert you when an earthquake larger than 4.5 is detected nearby. The Paired devices feature shows the connection status and battery percentage of Bluetooth devices.
Alas, when connected to the Galaxy Buds 2, the At a Glance widget on my device shows that the earphones are connected and shows their battery percentage. I’ve not had a chance to test earthquake alarms, even though I live in Seattle, it’s only a matter of time. I have also not been able to get the security check countdown to work, but I will continue to test the feature.
Some users have reportedly started receiving the doorbell feature, which shows some of the best video doorbells that support Google Assistant when someone is standing at the door. It’s also unclear if vacation alerts are available, a feature that will remind you to turn off alarms if there is an upcoming vacation (for those of you who could spend the extra time sleeping in).
Still, it’s nice to see Google make Pixel At a Glance more informative and useful, especially for users like myself who may not have found the widget as useful as it could be.
