Gamevice has relaunched the controller formerly known as Razer Kishi to become “Gamevice for Android” at an appealing new price.
For years, Gamevice has been creating side-mounted game controllers for phones and tablets, including making a “Made for Google” controller for the Pixel 3 series. In those early days of Gamevice, the company’s Android products were dimensioned, optimized, and marketed to fit only a single phone.
So in 2020, Gamevice partnered with the respected gaming accessory brand Razer to create the Razer Kishi, which continued to be a fan favorite in the Android gaming community. But despite the fact that Razer Kishi’s DNA is distinctly Gamevice, the company took second billing on the controller with only a small logo on the back.
Today, Gamevice is relaunching that controller under a new name, simply “Gamevice for Android”, devoid of the former Razer branding. With that change, the controller is now also significantly more affordable, and sells for $ 59. By comparison, the standard Razer Kishi (still available directly from Razer) sells for $ 79, while the Xbox co-branded model would set you back $ 99.
The only physical difference that the company notes is that the new Gamevice for Android should be able to expand just a little bigger than the Kishi so that it can accommodate larger newer devices like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As before, the new Gamevice has Xbox-branded buttons, dual joysticks and analog triggers, everything a gamer needs to enjoy their favorite titles on both streaming services and locally. And when you are not using it, Gamevice collapses so it can be easily stored.
In our review of what was then the Razer Kishi, we found that it was a perfectly competent controller, albeit with a few drawbacks (especially in the comfort department, which is very subjective) that made it harder to recommend for $ 79, compared to competitors. just like the GameSir X2. For its recently reduced price point, Gamevice for Android is a far more compelling offering.
Once installed, your phone is now essentially a Nintendo Switch, so you can play on the Stadia or Xbox Game Pass with your hands on the buttons on either side of your phone, giving you a full overview of the action. A minor detail that I appreciate is that the Razer Kishi also redirects the sound from your phone’s bottom speakers to aim directly at you instead.
The newly christened Gamevice for Android – along with models for iPhones and iPads – is now available from Amazon or directly from Gamevice. The controller also comes with a promotional code so new subscribers can enjoy a free month of Game Pass Ultimate streaming.
