The Super Mario animated film with Chris Pratt was scheduled to arrive later this year, but it looks like the plans have now been officially changed.
Nintendo’s very own Shigeru Miyamoto has once again hijacked the company’s Twitter account to deliver the news. The film will now jump from December 21, 2022 to April 2023. It will be released in early April in North America and one later in Japan.
In the same update, Miyamoto apologized and noted that it would be “worth the wait”:
“This is Miyamoto. After consulting Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. movie, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023-28. April in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest sorry, but I promise it’s worth the wait. “
Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri also shared a statement:
“Miyamoto-San and I have collaborated on all aspects of the Super Mario Bros. movie and, together with our partners at Universal, have decided to move the global release to Spring 2023 – April 7 in North America and April 28 in Japan. We are happy to share this incredible movie with you. “
In addition to Chris Pratt, the cast will include Charlie Day (Pacific Rim) as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) as Princess Peach, Jack Black (Rock School) as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4) as Toad and Seth Rogan (Pineapple Express) as Donkey Kong.
