V Rising adds offline mode, selling 1 million copies

I wrote about V Rising yesterday, and noted that it had sold over 500,000 copies. Well, it has now sold much more than that, having hit a million marks less than a week after its release.

The milestone was announced by developers Stunlock earlier today:

It’s a fun fact, but it’s not the only one V Rising news today. In questions that are more important to anyone who wants to play the game solo (or even with friends, but locally), The vampire survival adventure now includes an offline mode.

Previously, the game was only online, and although it contains multiplayer elements (both versus and co-op), it is also completely entertaining in single player. However, these solo players still had to play online, which depending on your situation was not always possible (or even just something you would like to have to do).

So as part of the game 0.5.41448 update, solo players no longer need it and can now start the game in LAN mode instead. As the name suggests, although this will create an offline world that you can explore, you can still play with friends if they are part of the same network:

We have now enabled LAN mode, allows players to play V Rising without internet connection. Players can enable this mode on the host game screen and at server startup. LAN mode can be played alone or with friends on the same local network. Keep in mind that we will be working to improve LAN mode as we continue to develop V Rising under Early Access.

Also added today is the ability for Steam Cloud to store a game’s server history:

Steam Cloud can now store V Rising Server History. Automatic storage is enabled by default. To disable it, please go to the Steam properties of V Rising. This will fix a “missing character” issue that may occur when connecting a server from another PC.
