343 Industries has unveiled its planned 2022 roadmap for Halo Infinite, and it includes a release window in late August for the long-awaited campaign network co-op.
All the details were revealed by Halo Infinite’s head of creative Joseph Staten at Halo Waypoint, and while they may change, they give a good idea of what Halo Infinite fans can expect for the rest of the year. 343 also notes that the timeframe will be “extended as we announce long-term initiatives” and that “the roadmap is an evolving document.”
The roadmap begins with a focus on season 2 “Lone Wolves,” which runs from May 3 to November 7. We already knew that season 2 would be launched with a new 100 layer Battle Pass, two new maps in Catalyst (Arena) and Breaker (BTB) and three new game modes in King of the Hill, Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing.
What was made a little clearer were some of the events and new features that will come during the Lone Wolves. These include Campaign Networking in late August and Forge Open Beta in September. These release windows are goals and can change, but it puts the progress of their development in a clearer overview.
As for Forge, 343 decided to forgo a “large-scale formal flight program and go straight into open beta.” Once launched, it does not disappear and will continue to evolve and grow over time.
Season 2 will also feature a new Fracture mode in Entrenched – with its first week starting May 24th – and two narrative events in Interference from May 3rd – May 16th and Alpha Pack from July 19th – 1st. August. These “multiplayer narrative events” will “Place your Spartan at the center of a seasonal story in development.”
343 also gave a brief look at what fans can expect from the currently nameless season 3, which begins on November 8th. It will bring a new Battle Pass, maps, modes, sandbox elements, narrative events, fracture events and split screen campaign collaboration.
The lack of consistent content was also addressed, and 343 said it is very conscious that it needs to do more, but it will not do so at the expense of team health.
“We know we need to deliver more content and more features faster,” 343. wrote [a] priority zero [of team health] means we sometimes have to slow down to stay healthy and move faster later. But we are also looking aggressively at ways to accelerate. “
In conclusion, 343 shared that it would release “Drop Pods” of quality of life fixes as they are ready – most likely once a month – and that it would dive into more about Season 2 and the schedule on April 27 at. 13:00 PT / 16: 00 ET / 21: 00 BST.
