CD Project Red delays the new generation of Witcher 3

CD Project Red has announced that it will delay the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as it brings the rest of the porting internally.

The change in development teams on the new generation upgrades was revealed through a tweet on The Witcher series’ Twitter account. “We’ve decided to get our in-house development team to do the rest of the work on the next-generation version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” the tweet reads. “We are currently evaluating the scope of the work to be carried out and therefore need to postpone the release of Q2 until further notice.” A follow-up message says, “We will update you as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding.”

Saber Interactive was the company that worked on the ports of Witcher 3 for the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft and had previously partnered with CD Project on the Switch port for the same game. No reason was given as to why Saber would no longer be involved, nor is there a timeline on the new expected release window.

In recent months, CD Projekt has had its hands full with the new re-ports of Cyberpunk 2077 released in February and still plans to expand the game with new content. The studio also announced that a new chapter in The Witcher franchise is on its way and will run on Unreal Engine 5 instead of the proprietary REDengine.
