Elden Ring came out almost two months ago and fans have found out many of the game’s mysteries. Still, it probably holds a few other secrets that are carefully hidden all over the world, and it may take a while before players can reveal them all. Various Elden Ring Fantasy theories have emerged that aim to explain some aspects of a larger NPC.

Gideon Ofnir is one of the most important NPCs in Elden Ring. He shows up at Roundtable Hold, and players can talk to him for more information about the shardbears. Gideon plays a role in Nepheli’s questline, and he also acts as the main story boss near the end of the game. He is called Sir Gideon Ofnir, The All-Nowing in this fight, and one player suggests a crazy theory about how Gideon knows everything.

A Redditor named VaneBorne begins to explain this theory by pointing to Gideon’s armor set, which is full of images of eyes and ears. VaneBorne then associates its name with a species of beetle called Xylotrupes gideon, and in turn, Teardrop Scarabs. VaneBorne says that Scarabs also have eyes drawn on them, and they think that these scarabs could be a way for Gideon to spy on the player.

They also share two maps that show the location of these beetles and wonder if it could prove how Gideon does not know about some things. The post goes into more detail and even has a FAQ for users who want to know more about this theory. In essence, VaneBorne concludes that Scarabs in Elden Ring are Gideon’s surveillance drones, and that’s how he knows so much about the world.

Users do not seem convinced by VaneBorne’s supporting arguments for this theory. Many of them state that Gideon does not know everything and continue his pursuit of knowledge until the end of the game. Some users mention that Gideon got much of his information from the main character, and Scarabs existed naturally in Elden Ring‘s world.

Some players spend time discussing the battle against Gideon, using magic attacks from others Elden Ring chefer. He reportedly only uses their moves if the players talk to him about that particular match, which further disproves this theory. However, some users appreciate the efforts made by VaneBorne in this post, and it would not be surprising to see more such theories in the future.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
