The Mass Effect trilogy represents the pinnacle of BioWare’s cinematic style of RPGs even a decade after the trilogy ended. So it is not surprising that someone wants to adapt it to a movie or series at some point. Amazon Studios managed to secure the rights by the end of 2021, and although the details so far are pretty scarce as the project has not even been green lit, we scanned the surface of each planet within reach of the details we could get after.
When will the Mass Effect TV series air?
Unfortunately, it may take a while before we get an answer to this one. While Amazon has the rights, we have seen no sign that they are heading into pre-production. There is no instructor or cast attached. We do not even have a definite confirmation that the show is taking place. Sometimes studios will acquire the rights to a franchise and sit on them for a long time.
If I were to speculate, I would say 2025 at the earliest. Even if they started screwing up production right away, something so ambitious would take a long time to get right.
What will the Mass Effect TV series be about?
So far, you should probably get used to the answer: We just do not know. I would probably bet on seeing well-known characters like Commander Shepard, Garrus Vakarian and reapers. They are well known to fans of the games and the prospect of seeing them in live action would attract many viewers.
There’s an off chance that the show would instead focus on a different era or a different part of the universe, but knowing how these studies work, I would be a little surprised.
Is Henry Cavill in the TV series Mass Effect?
Nothing has been confirmed yet. The actor, who is known for his great enthusiasm for all that nerdy, has, however, expressed interest. Talk to our friends on GamesRadar, he said he “loved” the Mass Effect trilogy. About possibly taking on a prominent role, he said, “largely, yes, it all depends on how they perform it.”
He already plays Geralt in The Witcher series, another of PC game’s most recognizable heroes, and is a popular fancasting for a male Commander Shepard. I would rather watch a series with FemShep in the lead, but Cavill’s enthusiasm for the source material would also make him a natural fit for a number of other parts.
Is the Mass Effect TV series going to be live action?
Say it with me: We are not sure. But most likely, given Amazon’s other recent adaptations like Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have taken that approach. Besides, a CG-animated Mass Effect show would just be like playing the games without getting to do any of the fun parts, would it?
