Google kills call recording apps in Play Store on May 11th

Starting with Android 10, Google eliminated call recording by default, and on May 11, the company will implement new Google Play Store policies that prevent third-party apps from using the Accessibility API to record call audio flow.

These changes are in the direction of improved privacy and security, as the laws of recording calls around the world vary quite a bit. System, pre-installed apps that are already allowed to press the Accessibility API, however, will not be affected by the change.

Pixels and Xiaomi’s dialers, for example, are two exceptions to the rule. This is considered a built-in call recording feature. And although Google did not disclose plans to take care of them as well, we would assume that some additional policies will be implemented in the future.
