The most incredible in glory show so far it is not super soldiers, human clones or even artificial intelligence. I can believe all that; what I have the hardest time believing in is that internal combustion is still around even in the distant future, which is what glory show seems to suggest in recent episodes.

Who cares that Master Chef took off the helmet? Where is everyone electric cars!?

We already knew the series was stubborn around old cars, but it GMT800 seen in the outer colonies was OK because that generation of the Chevy Tahoe is amazing. But old trucks aside, it glory series from Paramount + seems to make an implicit argument that electric vehicles are not the dominant form of propulsion in 2552. It seems that the future of cars is … ICE?

It is clear from section fivewhere we see one M12 warthog bring extra fuel tanks. This involves the use of some liquid fuel that is routinely used when the warthog moves troops, weapons, or mysterious aliens. Even heavy super soldiers, or Spartan IIs, weighing about 1,000 pounds each! It can not be good for fuel economy.

This explains why there are so many extra gas cans, but there is not really an explanation as to why UNSC uses internal combustion in the first place.

What happened between the development of intergalactic space travel and artificial general intelligence? Could Dr. Halsey not taking a break from his experiments to make EV batteries lighter or more energy efficient?

And the programs insist that old technology also exists in other ways. The outer colonies – where we saw Tahoe – use old vehicles with water cooling, as a bicycle’s blown radiator shows.

Water cooling is not in itself the problem, but combined with an exhaust pipe and other bits, the bike looks very much like an old one four-stroke motorcycle. We could give the colonies the benefit of the doubt and say that old technology is more reliable in remote regions, but why have electric vehicles not become reliable in 2552?

The only thing that can explain the use of ICE is a future breakthrough in synthetic fuels. The problem, however, is that car technology has stagnated with clean combustible fuels. Even then, the complexity of ICE engines is a responsibility of space travelers.

If you did not follow the series, I do not blame you. That glory show comes a long way from the games, though it is influenced by novels which expanded the game. I mostly dig the show as it’s not easy to graft a video game to the small screen. The master boss – as we know him – would be a boring protagonist.

A fearless, immobile super-soldier is hardly convincing, no matter how much it satisfies our power fantasies. It is a little strange to even in a series set far in in the distant future, electric cars are still impossibly difficult to discern.
