Among the many unearned stereotypes about millennials, the unanimous truth is that we are appalled by unexpected phone calls. And do you get repeated unexpected calls? Well, I can just choose to throw my phone out of a window. Maxis has taken advantage of the original fear and brought it to life in the form of The Sims 4’s infamous “Ring Ring Girl”, which is now an official sim that you can download from the gallery and which announces a game update to the main menu.
That very reviled Ring Ring Girl has been on The Sims 4’s start menu for a while and has tortured players with her adoring look every time they start up. She may seem overbearing, even obsessed, but she honestly gave real advice that you can check your Sim’s phone to get them a job or call their friends.
Maxis rolled out a small game update yesterday to revise the game’s start menu and with the triggered Ring Ring Girl.
She’s everywhere. She’s calling you. Why do not you answer? Do not want to just look at your Sim’s phone?
Clearly, everyone noticed the Ring Ring Girls’ appearance. Clearly, they were all horrified. Clearly, they expressed their horror on Twitter and on Reddit.
Maxis doubled the takeover of Ring Ring Girl and decided to offer her as a downloaded Sim at the public gallery. Her name is Callia Maebey and she is erratic, self-absorbed, high maintenance and strives to be a friend to the world. Yes, she’s a reference to a meme from 2012. She really is the light and dark of Millennial Simmers.
I briefly feared that players would give in to their worst instincts and start throwing Ring Ring Girl in pools without ladders, but it turns out that Callia does not have to fear retaliation. Simmers chooses creation over destruction and has decided to give her a makeover by implementing favorite hairstyles, fashion and no shortage of Sims 4 CC to make her mood a little less, ah, intense.

In the midst of all the Callia fever was yesterday’s actual game update for The Sims 4. In its patch notes for April 26th, Maxis explains some new modular main menu functions. The great, relatively speaking, is that you can now start playing your last saved sim directly from the menu instead of loading a world and then continue, which will let you skip an intermediate loading screen.
The Sims 4 main menu is now back to normal, or new normal, anyway. Callia has got the boot, but she has found a new legacy in everyone’s save game instead.
