When Pokémon Unite was originally unveiled in June 2020, it did not fall into good soil with the Pokémon community at the time. The unveiling trailer generated 150,000 dislikes in less than 24 hours and even managed to surpass the unveiling of Metroid Prime: Federation Forcewhich had over 90,000 dislikes in less than a day.

Fast forward to April 2022, and it’s a completely different situation for the free MOBA-style Pokémon game. It’s safe to say that Unite is great, like really big – with the latest announcement from The Pokémon Company revealing that the combined Nintendo Switch and mobile downloads have now exceeded 70 million worldwide.

Pokémon Unite has gone from strength to strength since its original launch. Most recently, the game added Azumarill as a new playable fighter, following the release of Duraludon in March. Here’s a new trailer – including a Google translation of the description, which notes how 70 million downloads have now been exceeded:

“The Team Strategy fighting game” Pokemon Unite “has exceeded 70 million downloads worldwide! Both the Nintendo Switch version and the smartphone version are now distributed! This is a new Pokemon game. Develop and score goals. The key to the game is unity.”
