Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 could come with a slightly larger battery

It’s not much, but it’s at least something

Samsung wants to sell foldable phones. Engineers do not want batteries to fold with them because they will explode. The challenge with a clamshell form factor (like what the Galaxy Z Flip3 offers) is therefore to find creative ways to position and dimension the fuel tank without disturbing other intended functions such as IP-rated water resistance or the camera stack. And it seems that these engineers have found a way to ensure that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4 gets an ever so slightly larger battery.

The Dutch release Galaxy Club has learned that Flip4 gets two batteries with the model codes EB-BF721ABY and EB-BF722ABY. This is not a surprise, as last year’s Flip3 – as well as all other Galaxy Z devices to date, including the Fold series – also runs with a dual-cell implementation, one embedded in each “shell”. However, it has also been revealed that the larger unit of the pair will have a nominal capacity of 2,400mAh, representing an increase of 100mAh.

Meanwhile, the smaller battery on the new device, which the company calls the ‘main’ device, for some reason, which we are not sure of, reportedly retains the exact same capacity as the one on the Z Flip3 at 903mAh.

This means that Flip4’s batteries will offer a nominal capacity of 3,300 mAh (if you will forgive the rounding error), up to the previous model’s 3,200 mAh. The difference will probably hardly lead to any noticeable improvement in daily use – we had hoped for a much bigger bump, especially given the dismal screen-on time for the Z Flip3 – but if paired with improved optimization, it might, just maybe , means something.

Note here that the company advertises Z Flip3’s typical capacity as 3,300 mAh, which means that Z Flip4’s advertised capacity may actually be 3,400 mAh. But the marketing department can not do much about what real-world reviews say.
