Ubisoft shuts down online services for 90 older games

Ubisoft has shut down online services for 90 games across multiple platforms. The game will still remain playable, and offline features for each game should still work as normal.

Ubisoft notes that in-game news and player statistics in each affected game have also been disabled. For all the games that used Ubisoft Connect services, devices and challenges have been disabled. What Ubisoft describes as “ULC” (Unlockable Content), such as additional cards or skins in all affected games, have also been disabled without a new way to unlock them. PC players who have previously unlocked such content will be locked out of it, while console players can still enjoy the unlocked content unless saved game files for that game are reset.

The full list of games includes several beloved and critically acclaimed titles. While some games only lose servers to select platforms – games like Just Dance 2016 for Just Dance 2018 only lose online support for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii, but will still be playable online on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U – others , like Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, loses complete online support. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory will lose online features on PC, while Splinter Cell: Double Agent will lose its online components across all available platforms.

Ubisoft also clarified that some games that were recently taken offline were made by mistake and they have been restored. “Last week, some of our games (Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5 and Splinter Cell Blacklist) were taken offline for a short maintenance and services have been restored, “it explains. “We will provide advance notice before shutting down all online services for our games, and we have updated our support article to reflect this.”

A number of games were also taken offline in April 2021, the list of which you can find here.

Ubisoft has not yet provided a justification for shutting down the online services for the affected games. A complete list of Ubisoft titles and their respective platforms that are losing online functionality can be found in Ubisoft’s official “Help” article on the subject.
