Target changes the way it handles PS5 recharges. The retailer will now allow customers to purchase a PS5 console as soon as individual stores receive inventory, reports Reliable Refill Tracking Jake Randall.
Previously, PS5 restock events were held every two to four weeks by Target. The reseller would wait to build enough inventory to distribute consoles to all of its locations and then offer those consoles for sale in a single warehouse. However, this change means that consoles will be available more regularly, as individual stores will sell any PS5s they receive as soon as they have them.
To date, Target has made it a policy to only sell PS5 consoles online, but it seems that is also changing. In future, the retailer will allow the console to be purchased in-store. However, do not expect to see the console sit on store shelves as demand continues to surpass supply and the PS5 remains one of the most sought after technology products in the world.
Your best bet for scoring a PS5 at Target will periodically be to check if your local store has stock through Target online. If there is stock available near you, be sure to reserve your order for pickup at the store, as the console may be sold out when you arrive at the retailer.

Target made exactly the same change to how it handles Xbox Series X rebuild last May, and by most accounts, the system works pretty well. It makes tracking Target PS5 restock trends almost impossible, but it also deters scalpers as this system makes it much harder to buy multiple consoles at once. Overall, this change really benefits gamers who just want to buy a console for personal use, and it’s a big win in our books.
If you want to buy a PS5 at Target, our advice is to constantly monitor stock levels at your local store. Just to repeat, as soon as a store receives stock, it will no longer be held until a major stock event, instead it will be sold to the first willing customer who wants it. If that person is to be you, then keep a close eye on the inventory near you and act quickly if your local Target has the console in stock.
While we’re happy to see Target change things up when it comes to PS5 rebuild, lots of other retailers are sticking to the familiar method of slowly building up allocation to hold a single major rebuild event every few weeks. Be sure to check our PS5 refill hub regularly for the latest updates across all major retailers so you never miss a drop.
