Witcher 3’s PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are not in “development hell,” CD Project Red said in response to reports of the delay.
Yesterday, CDPR announced that it has pushed The Witcher 3’s new re-upgrade back as it takes development internally. As the studio has not yet announced a new release window, this came as an indefinite – but not infinite or endless – delay.
In an investor call today, CD Projekt’s senior vice president of business development, MichaĆ Nowakowski, pushed back against the use of the word indefinitely to describe the delay, which he claims evokes an undeserved degree of uncertainty surrounding the project’s fate.
“I’ve been looking at the headlines that popped up here and there over the internet and I’ve seen one that really caught my attention, which is, ‘Witcher 3 next generation delayed indefinitely,’ which sounds like the game is in a kind of development hell, “Nowakowski said. “I would like to state that this is not the fact.”
It is worth noting that CDPR in its response to these reports did not go so far as to suggest a new release window, but it did mean that we did not have to wait until next summer with the upgrades to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
“There have been a lot of insinuations that we will launch, like June next year or something like that,” Nowakowski said. “That’s completely not the case.”
Nowakowski also added a little more insight into the reason for the delay, explaining that the study needs more time to evaluate the situation after taking development into its own hands.
“We evaluate our time, it requires a little investigation – that’s all we say. Nobody says the game is delayed [with] a monumental time gap in front of us. That’s as much as I can say about the Witcher next gen, but I really want to emphasize that fact. “
Witcher 3’s new re-update will be a free download for people with a copy of the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC. As mentioned earlier, it’s unclear when it’s launching, but it’s certainly not in Q2 2022 as previously planned, and it sounds like it will not be as far out as the summer of 2023. What’s it like for a release window?
